Default First real driving in five years on the xj8

My jaguar hasn't really been on the road since 2014 where is was traded in to a dealer , then sold at auction, then sat at another dealer, and then sat at my house for a few months after it broke its gearbox(i think that one was the dealer as it worked fine before I took it in) and a oil leak. But now its alive and I've been driving it around town putting about 250 miles on it in about a week with almost no issues(ive noticed the shocks are awful in the rear and the alignment is off) oh well at least its working again.

Good to hear it.

Now you have a broken forum username instead.

If you deal with an X-308’s problems early on, you will have a faithful companion for the indefinite future. By which I mean 250+ thousand miles.

i bought my ‘01 XJR IN 2008 with 80k miles on it. It was chick driven, never used for commuting, and parked inside every night, Its factory-order Emerald mica paint practically glows.

This was my third X-308 so I got my trusty wrench Juan to take care of the timing gear and so on.

Juan has come up with a solution to the problematic ZF 5-speed automatic: At the 80k mark, remove its synthetic fluid and scour it out, including the torque converter, replacing all filters and magnets. I’ve got 156k miles on my XJR and its replacement fluid still looks good.

Aside from scheduled maintenance and tires, I haven’t spent a dime on my XJR in years. Lately I’ve considered purchasing an off-lease 2016 XF — because it’s rated the best car-guy model in its class, and a low-mileage ‘16 model with factory warranty can be had for $20-some thousand. But then I think, why should I take the plunge when my X-308 outperforms the XF in nearly every area?

Your XJR doesn't have the problematic ZF, it has the sturdier MB 5G-Tronic W5A580.

Looks like she could be my car's twin, except I've got the leaper!
