Fuel filler door lock/unlock motor

I have noticed, more often than not, that the lock/unlock mechanism on my fuel filler door does not always function. I believe it's working, just not getting the oomph it needs or is sticking. By the time it's time to fuel up, the lock will be activated and I have to get into the trunk, pull back the lining and move the arm manually.
I spoke with someone who has some experience with Jags and he said it is not an unheard of problem. But I could not turn up anything in the search engine here.
Any benefit to spraying some WD40 or silicone onto the motor arm?
