Fuel pump issue

Fuel pump issue
Recently I had to replace the fuse to my fuel pump, as a matter of fact three times. Eventually it went completely went out. Well it took me awhile but I remove the tank from the car and replace the fuel pump. I wasn’t surprised that it was seized, which cause it to blow the fuses. I install a new fuel pump and tested it before install the tank. Added 5 gals. Of gas and attempted to start the car. Too my dismay it wouldn’t start. Check fuse and it is good, as a matter of fact I can hear it come on when I turn the ignition. I replace the relay and still nothing. My question is, does the tank need to be purged after installing new pump? Or is there another step that I’m missing?

To answer your question specifically, correctly installed the pump should pick up fuel without priming. It sounds like the pump is running and that you know what you are doing. Did you replace the fuel filter? It could have been part of the problem to begin with. Have you checked the fuel pressure at the fuel rail? Could be something other than fuel.

Assuming you installed a correct replacement fuel pump, I second the fuel filter. Could be clogged.
Exchange with a new one and put a hose on the engine side of the new filter. Stuff the loose end of the hose into a jerry can and turn the iginiton on.
Now you can varify if your new pump is working or not. Priming is usually not needed.
Good Luck!

Did you check the Link Lead
I think you would have noticed if the Link Lead had shorted out.
When our Fuel Pump died, it was the Link Lead that brings the electric power to the Fuel Pump that shorted out and ruined the Fuel Pump.
Our Jaguar dealer had to replace the Link Lead and the Fuel Pump. It was $185 for Fuel Pump and $350 for labor (total $525). The 3rd party warantee company paid the $525. I had to pay for the Link Lead ($135.84) that was not covered by the policy.
The dealer did not explain why the Link Lead burned out. They did say it happens often.
Just a another possible thing that might have gone bad in the fuel tank.
