Hi,
I have a 1998 Jaguar XJR w/ 80k on it. Car ran super until a few days ago. I replaced the fuel pumps a little over a year ago and haven't had a bit of trouble out of it. Then a few days ago i got in it and it started and would run for 2 seconds and die. So i scanned it got no codes. So I started checking fuses and relays and found that if i pulled out theFuel Pump Relay 1 it will start and run smooth but i get restricted performance warning and the check engine light comes on and I get a DTCP1230 something to the effect of "Manufactuer controlled air and fuel metering malfunction"but it stillspullsgood up to about3000rpm then I get the cutting out. If I put a relay back in the F/P 1 slot its back to starting and runs for 2 seconds and dies. If I leave in the#1 relay and pull #2 nothing at all.I run nothing lower than 90octane fuel fuel filter has approx. 6k on it.I am goin nuts i didnt think it would run on one F/P but im no Jag expert either. Any Help would be greatly appreciated. ThankYou Very Much

You could start by replacing both fuel pump relays - pretty cheap thing to do. I had similar symptoms once when I had a major vacuum leak (loose connection on part load breather, intake side) - you might want to try checking all of your vacuum connections.

As was said you should check fuel pressure. P1230 is a fuel pump relatedcode, but it is more related to voltages and continuity than the pump itself. Go to Alldata.com and run through the tests, there are about a dozen for this problem. All you will need is a VOM. The tests look for a damaged harness. When replacing the pumps, the wiring may have been rubbing on something and caused a short or a wire pulled out of a connector. I would wiggle wires during the problem, you may find it.
