Fuel return system question

I have an XK8, but was hoping that the XJ8 might have a very similar system. My question is, is the fuel return line supposed to have any restriction in it? The is a connector in between two pieces of line, but I have not found it, nor do I know if it have any function other than linking the two pieces of line together.
I don't mean to muddy up other forums, but there seems to be little experience in the XK world on this. My car seems to have some restriction in the return line and is driving my fuel pressure way up.
Any and all help/advice is most appreciated!

The fuel return line from the pressure regulator goes directly to the tank with no restrictions. It runs under the car on the left side to the tank bottom above the diff.
There is a 'tangle' of fuel lines and heater hoses behind the throttle and maybe a plastic or rubber line is 'kinked'?????
