I just bought this 2002 XJ8 VP. It runs like a top...has a couple issues with the typical warning lamps on then off..I get that...BUT when I am cruising down road I have a pretty strong smell of gas inside car...no leaks...trunk doesnt smell...since tank iis in trunk...any ideas greatly appreciated!

 

Are we saying raw gas or unburned gas smell? Like spilled gas or strong eye watering unburned gas?

 

not eye watering...but yes...unburned gas fumes.

 

I had this when my upper O2 Sensor went out, u can check if this is your case via OBD2 diag.

 

Have a look at fuel trims, too.

 

Got new downstream O2 sensor . Last one installed 2 weeks ago defective.goung to shop next week . Will seal around heater box .. raw gas smell Willgone but exhaust engine smell coming into cabin .. I installed spark plugs and they are tight. Believe sealing will solve problem and locate raw gas source . Will get some answers next week by December 15 thanks all ..believe we have a path for a solution ..
