Gas tank problem

Every Jaguar I have ever owned has had this problem. I know that there was a TSB for some cars - it has to to with the fill hose collapsing - I think it was around 2000.
I normally get my gas a the same station - of the six pumps I only ever try to get gas from two of them and then only if it has less than 1/2 tank.
My tank must be filled very slowly when just topping it up -- say when you need a full tank for a trip and its only 1/4 down

Ardisson: I've experienced this problem also. I experimented with position of fill nozzle and this seems to help. I also only use the first click/setting on the nozzle. A collapsed fill hose could certainly be the culprit though as yeldogt has pointed out. I bet to replace the hose is a pain though, having read threads on tank removal...

I just spent a few hours on tank issues. The 98 has a solid metal fill hose, therefore it can't collapse. It does have a complicated vent system, though. Here's my experience; today I filled up from a very empty tank, only 4.8 litres remaining, a little over a gallon to our US friends. Putting the nozzle fully into the tank at the very slowest fill rate caused it to click off at 5 gallons.
Putting the nozzle in just far enough to open the little flapper valve allowed me to add 74.5 litres, or 19.7 gallons. So go slow, and with the nozzle just barely in the tank.
FYI, what was driving this was that I'd fill it when it was close to "E", yet the quantity wasn't near the full capacity of the tank according to the manual. Either the tank wasn't filling all the way, or the gauge was wrong. Here's what I found:
When the low fuel light comes on, it is supposed to have 10 litres left, yet I used 14.9 before it ran out, according to the trip meter.
Also, at "E", you're supposed to have 6 litres left, but I had 9.
When the range said "0", I still 8.2 litres.
I found a good TSB on this site for calibrating the fuel gauge, but couldn't be bothered for a 3 litre difference at E.
Now that I know the numbers, I can push it farther before filling.
I bet you're wondering, "why bother?". Well, I live in Canada, where gas is $1.34 per litre for premium, and I fill up in the states (Blaine) where it was $3.44 per gallon for premium, or 95 cents per litre Canadian. A $100 dollar fill versus a $70 dollar fill.
