Exclamation Gearbox fault Code P0732.Gear 2 Ratio incorrect.Jaguar xj8 (x308)

Well doing my first post. I solved all kinds of mechanical problems on my car with these forums, unfortunately I just run into some transmission codes and I cant seem to find a good answer.

In the last week, I had to change my Octopus hose (heater hose) because it was leaking coolant. After the fix, 2 days after, my engine went into Restricted performance mode. After reading the code and replacing my #7 coil, the problem was fixed. Car ran fine.

2 days after, I was out to dinner, car drove perfect. When we tried leaving, I put it in R and it wouldn't go, so I shifted it to D wouldnt move much either and realized my tranny wasnt working well.

I turned off the car and back on, tried backing up again and it moved but veeerrry slowly. I parked it back in, got a ride got some tools and my scanner and came back.

I disconnected the battery, and hooked it back up. Turned the car on and let it warm up a bit, during that I could hear a weird noise, something spinning without being properly engaged. ? sorry thats best description i can give of the sound. It got louder for a second and almost sounded like it engaged, i then tried Reversing it and it would go. I drove the car home with scanner hooked up. Every time I stooped at a light, it was very hard getting my car going and sometimes even hesitated for few seconds. Run fine at higher speeds. The check engine light went on halfway home, GEARBOX FAULT, and the code i read was P0732 which meant Gear 2 Ratio incorrect.

The first thing im doing today is check the VOLTAGE of battery. Hoping its 12.6v. I will replace if its anything less then that.

I scheduled a meeting with a transmission shop tomorrow. Getting my tranny fluid checked to see if its black or low. The guy im taking it to, a bit of a scammer and automatically said sounds like a internal problem with tranny.

Going into this I just want to know a few other things I should check before replacing or rebuilding the tranny. I have 0 clue about a tranny.

Checking.
Battery voltage. Tranny Fluid low/black. Then im thinking Speed sensor & solenoids?
Need good advise for me and everybody else in future. Would really appreciate it. Thanx

I took it to a shop. They checked the fluid and told me it was good. He then said I have a broken drum. Best quote in town i got is $1500 with 1 year warranty. Very reasonable, most other shops are $2000-$2600.

The drum is the most common failure. I replaced my own, and with parts and fluid alone, spent close to $1,000.
