Default Glove Box Lock

Okay....I have never tried to lock or unlock a glove box in my life on any car. Now I want to be able to lock the glove box on my jaguars. So I take the ignition key, and try to insert in in the lock on each car, and it is like the key is the wrong key. I am obviously doing something wrong, both with the key, and admiting to this problem on this post. Any help would be appreciated.

That's funny, I'll have to admit I never tried using a key in one, and I've seen a bunch of cars with the handles busted off. Either we'll both get an answer, or some more people have confessions to add.

What color is your key? It's not green is it? Also on my car the lock is very stiff and it takes a little bit of force to get it to lock.

I have green and black keys, and neither have worked...but if you say you got one in, I will try harder...with the black key....

Well I don't want to tell you to break it, but I know mine is very hard to lock.. You could try lubricating the lock with graphite (proper lube to use on locks) and if you do break it loose it should be easier the next time. There is also the possibility that either the glove box was replaced or the rest of the locks were replaced at some point in time and your using the wrong key OR it's just plain old broken and you'll have to disassemble or replace it.

Hi John

Just went and tried mine and it works ok. Turn clockwise about 1/2 a turn to lock, and 1/2 turn anticlockwise to unlock. ONLY black key works, the green key doesn't which is the correct behaviour according to the manual. I believe the green key also won't unlock the trunk manually either (and the trunk release is disabled once you put the car into Valet mode). When the gloevbox is locked and you pull on the handle it feels VERY flimsy, so I'm not at all surprised that JtO has seen cars with the handles broken.

Agree with the suggestions to squirt stuff into it..... it's probably never been used since new (This was the first time I'd ever tried mine tonight!)

Anyway, you're better storing your gun under your seat so you can get at it easier :-)

You can't fit anything bigger than a .22 under the seat of these jags.. I tried putting my Sig .45 under it and got it stuck. Talk about a scary situation. Your down there yanking on it and hoping it doesn't accidentally go off.

It's funny to hear all this about the guns. Here in California, they Pee themselves if they know you even own one.

I blame my wife for the seat...

I blame the San Francisco Courts for the other. Although, with all the crazy people in this state, maybe it's not a bad idea to not have too many of them running around with guns.

all this talk makes me want to blow something up and soil the passenger seat Good to know other gun supporters out there. And the OP had no idea where his thread was going to lead.

John, may your box lock and unlock at your will.

The coolest way I've seen so far to have a gun handy in your car is my friends range rover. He has a hidden door in the wood trim on his dash and at the push of a button a 1911 slides out via a linear actuator. It's very james bond.. I don't know who did it for him, but it sure would be useful if someone tried to carjack you.

Get a pic white star, or a video and post off-topic. Would love to see this.

The key works. Don't ask me why it did not the first time I tried. Works great on both cars.
