Glove Box Repair
On my 2001 VDP the glove box won't close. The lock mechanism works but when I turn the key, the locking rod/s that keep it closed do not slide/move. If I push the rod with a small screwdriver on either side it does slide out towarde the opposite side. Any ideas how to fix it? Can it be taken apart? Thanks

Fixed !
First, took the glove box lid off (four star shaped screws on bottom of the lid on the hinges) and then using a 1/4" drill I popped out the three black aluminum rivets that hold the locking mechanism attached to the interior of the lid. The locking/sliding rods have a spring between them (size of an ink pen spring but stronger) that keeps the rods pushed appart from each other in order to keep the glove box closed. When the handle is pulled - the rods slide in, when released - the rods slide out in locking position. The spring on mine was broken so I found one similar in my "loose bolts and nuts jar" installed, greased it and back in bussines. To reattach the locking mechanism back to the glove box lid use rivets or hard steel screws (if using screws make sure they are not too long).
Also, a few members complained about the lid not being flush (gaps on one side or another). Inside the glove box, on each side you find one plastic catch for the metal locking rod held by one star head screw; lose the screw and adjust the catch in or out to get a perfect alignment of the lid.
