Default Good air cleaner price 2000 XJ8

Hi,

Its about time to replace my air cleaner again. I let it go ~ 20K miles this time (I know manual states change each 30K) Not willing to change to K&N or any other modification.

NJA3558AA is the part # that is used by Jaguar and also by others such as Mann, Mahle, etc. Genuine Jaguar filters have “Jaguar” stamped on the edge of the filter & Mahle has “Mahle” stamped while some brands (Mann?) have nothing stamped.

I prefer to get a genuine Jaguar brand since there may be a very slight difference in size.

I’m in Arizona, USA & my dealer charges $65.04 + tax to buy one at the parts department! (FYI, oil filter= $21.21 & drain plug = $11.50)

Checking online a few UK stores have much better prices but shipping to the USA adds quite a bit (~ $35.00 & up)

So, any of you USA members know any online stores with good prices for Genuine Jaguar air filter NJA3558AA ?

Thanks!

Steve

For what's it worth.

I buy with the idea of thinking ahead. I use British Parts for genuine oil and air filters etc and buy a few at a time so freight per item isn't too bad.

I get upcoming things like spark plugs and fuel filters, trans service filters and costs far less that a local dealer.

You can't find genuine at Motorcars Ltd? Good luck witch ever you decide.

Thanks Jim,

I will make the phone calls in an attempt to be sure. May get some misinformation but, I’ll insist that it be a genuine Jaguar filter with “Jaguar” stamped on the filter & on the box.

I suspect that the lower priced air filters are all non-genuine jaguar such as made by Mann. Probably only Jaguar of Grenville, had the genuine one for $50.87 which may be the best I can find. The other ones you listed $14.95-38.62 are probably not genuine Jaguar. I had found British Parts UK had the air filter for 8.58 GBP (~ $14.09). Revisiting the web site I noticed it does not say genuine Jaguar --I’m almost certain anyone selling the air filter for $14-25 will have the one with no name that “fits” my Jag.

I wish they would not use that same part #. Very misleading. All the non Jaguar filters s/b listed as XYZ brand filter made to fit Jaguar, substitute for part # NJA3558AA. There is already much confusion re OEM, OE vs. aftermarket.

Neil,

As mentioned I’ll call to ask Motorcars Ltd., but, with a price of $22.91, I doubt it is genuine.

I purchased Oil filter (EAZ1354) $16.52 and Air Cleaner filter (NJA3558AA) $50.87 from Jaguar of Greenville (free shipping) about a year ago. Both of the filters were Jaguar branded.

Last month service - had Oil filter (Mann W7197) , Air Cleaner filter (Mann C31130) both purchased from Rock Auto Parts.com - 2 oil filters and 2 air cleaner filters - total with shipping
$56.86 (equals $28.43 for the filters this oil change).

My local Indy mechanic Peter did not notice any fit and quality issues with the Mann filters.

Also purchased Royal Purple Synthetic 10W30 Motor Oil - 3 gallons for $69.95 free shipping on Ebay listing (12 quarts - $5.83 per quart)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/171005625142...witem=&vxp=mtr

Another good deal on Ebay - same Ebay seller - 4 gallons Royal Purple Synthetic 10W30 Motor Oil for $84.95 (16 quarts - $5.31 per quart)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Royal-Purple...item2a2b20590a

Do you think that Jaguar ( and most other car manufacturers) make their own filter, sparkplugs, oil, etc?
Of course not.
Just get a filter from a reputable brand such as Wix, A/C delco, etc from the part store

I ended up purchasing from Gaudin Jaguar. 800-585-4704
Direct JPLV Porsche Parts.com
Genuine Jaguar air filter NJA3558AA - 1
Genuine Jaguar oil filter EAZ1354 - 2
Genuine Jaguar drain plug AJ83017 - 2
T= $106.04 Shipped
I ordered 2nd oil filter + drain plug to make Shipping more reasonable compared to cost of order. I calculated this same order using other merchants & Gaudin was the least expensive plus I’ve ordered from them a few times in the past. Most of the other merchants did not sell genuine Jaguar air filters as I suspected. Gaudin was less than Jaguar Greenville or SNG Barratt even with their discounts to Forum members. This was a surprise.

I actually checked a dozen merchants! Emailed several to ask if their air filter was Genuine Jaguar.

Luc, I knew I could buy aftermarkets parts from many local or online merchants much cheaper. I prefer to get a genuine Jaguar brand air filter since there may be a very slight difference in size. I had a couple Mann & other non-Genuine brand air filters years ago & had a whistling noise at high speeds coming from the direction of the air filter box. Spend hours trying to track it down & gave up & when I used a genuine Jag filter, it stopped. It may have been a coincidence but, a mechanic told me he could see a slight difference in size (I think he said height of the filters) when he compared the 2 side by side. I also realize that Jaguar does not manufacture their own parts & one or more of these other manufacturers may make the filter for Jaguar.

Vincent, Not interested in fixing (modifying) my Jag when it ain’t broke. <GRIN> Years ago, I had looked into K&N & read conflicting results from different people. Some loved them & some hated them. I decided against it. So, to completely change the filter box & air intake just to get a few more HP (maybe) & lower the cost of replacement air filters is not an option for me.

Jim, Yes, Mann claims their filters are wonderful as does every other manufacturer. Would love to see independent lab tests comparing Mann vs. Genuine Jaguar & other brands. I won’t hold my breath.
I did find Air filtration and flow tests using Napa Gold, Amsoil two stage foam, Jackson Racing two stage foam, a Baldwin fiberous, a K&N, and a Mazda factory replacement.:

It's a freaking air filter, for C sake! $105 for two oil can, an air filter, and two plugs: stick em up!

With my "thank you for your service" discount, I paid $15 at Advance Auto; on opening the box, the bag was labelled original Jaguar Parts.

They are just cars.

Jim,

I looked up Advance Auto parts
Advance Auto Parts: Car, Engine, Batteries, Brakes, Replacement, Performance & Accessories

All aftermarket part, not genuine Jaguar. We can debate whether Genuine Jaguar parts are a waste of money & those of us who buy then are fools. But as I stated, I know I can buy cheap Fram or other aftermarket parts locally or online for much less. BTW, you didn’t get a genuine Jaguar air filter element for $15.00. It is not even offered on their web site. And I think you know that.

In general I don’t really mind paying $13.89 from Gaudin for the oil filter even though I can buy aftermarket for $11. I do mind paying $42.79 for the **@@!! Air filter element but, have tried non-genuine as mentioned. I think these are very overpriced. (That is why I posted) Re the drain plug, that seems like a rip off. Not sure there is such a thing as a genuine Jaguar drain plug. I paid $10.26 & my local dealer charges $11.50! The old ones I remove look perfect to me but, since Jaguar recommends replacing each time, I am not willing to chance a leak for ~ $10.00. As you know, the gasket is part of the bolt so, you really cannot just reuse the bolt with a new gasket. I may be able to buy this locally for $3-4 but, to make a special trip for just this item would cost me more in gas & time than is worthwhile so, I buy it wherever I buy the oil filter.

“Stick ‘em up!” Does seem appropriate.

I was looking for an air filter today and saw this thread -- I checked Welsh and found the air filter price as reasonable but the shipping was over $12, almost the price of the filter!

I'm going to get one at Advance Auto Parts and just get it done.

So is ordering from Gaudin.

The OP wants a specific filter and that's who had it.

No idea why that should bother you.
