Got my first Jaguar running today!
What's going on guys!
Over the weekend I purchased a 1998 Jaguar XJR locally. The car had been sitting for quite a few years and did not run at the time of purchase. When I looked at the car, it turned over like it had no compression. I picked it up really cheap and couldn't pass up the deal.
I got it back over to my shop and pulled the tank to drain the fuel and check the pumps before anything else. I was quite surprised by the disaster I found inside!
Needless to say, that mess turned into an all day affair. Both pumps needed to be replaced, fuel filter was replaced, tank was drained, flushed and cleaned...not to mention I had to back flush the lines with a custom cocktail of fresh fuel, Seafoam and Lucas injector cleaner. Picture for reference of the tank going back together.
Once the fuel system was back in place, I verified injector pulse, spark and base pressure as well as the fact I had nothing for compression. Over the past two days I worked the cylinders with a blend of oils and managed to get the car to finally fire off (through the process I found one of my BRAND NEW fuel pumps was junk and needed replacing ).
Anyways, I was pleasantly surprised that it fired off! The motor sounds great, it still has a slight stumble at idle, but I feel it will clear up with some run time.
Great start for an awesome project!
