Default Folding mirrors T/S suggestions..

Parts involved in themighty "folding mirror back/forward/anywhere" trick..

-Folding mirrors: (make sure the are of the electrical folding type), some owners have replaced them with the non electrical folding type.. since the electrical ones tend to flap abbout and vibrate in the wind.. ie. poor build quality...
-Switch pack: not unusual they get problem when aged.. corrosion on the cirquit board or simply some oxidation under the buttons.. if the up/down tilting is erratic you have a clue there.
-Door Control module: signals from switchpack are routed via the drivers door control module via a network to the body processor module behind the glove box..
-Body processor module supply respective fold in/fold out relay with a ground depending on what command are given.
-Fold in fold out relays (behind LH Heelboard cover) are switching both power and ground to respectivley mirror depending on direction. They are supplied via a fuse located behind the RH Heelboard, fuse #4 (10A)
-A 20 pin splice header (Sumito, Green) Behind LH heelboard provides a common return from both folding motors (pin 1,2,3 are connected togeather.

I am rarely using this option.. if i try to show it of to any of my friends the mirrors go all over the place and then they get confused over where they are supposed to park.. leaving me quite embaressed.. And due to the poor quality, they have a play in the "hinge" that makes it neccesary to brake them loose forward from the detent and carefully fold them back in to the detent again, this in order to prevent them from rattle abbout.. I have actually in a weak moment considered to replace them with mirrors without this option... But i came to my senses and accepted that this issue is a part of my cars caracter :-)

Cheers Einhead!

Seems like I'll have to trace a few wires back...

I have the relays, as shown in the picture. I also had folding mirrors fitted and bought some new ones to make sure that the old mirrors weren't dead beats... So, I assume the Signal is sent from the switch to the door module which then converts it to a CAN/BUS Signal for the BPU/BPM to convert...

The BPU/BPM is supposed to be programmable... Does that mean I can get any other one and encode it via Jaguar Software to do what I want it to?

I suppuse so..

I beleive it depends on the origial box configuratoin on the car.. it would be wasted time and effort if you try to program it for options that was not originally included and/or supported..

As i recall it, there is suppoesed to be placed a sticker/label on the left side in the trunk under the lh side cover, that states the partnumbers on all the boxes the car was originally fitted with at deleivery.

Some hints in what might be involved.. not sure if its really valid for the X308.

Mine has the power fold mirrors too, and they functioned well when I got the car. They work even better now that I've disassembled, cleaned, lubricataed and rebuilt both units. The only thing I'm missing off them is an electrochromic mirror for the passenger side. They work well, I've never found them to be floppy or operating incorrectly.

I mentioned the wiring because your vehicle is a very early model, and Jaguar changed things on the car several times throughout its production life. So maybe the 97 mirrors were wired differently to the later ones. I could check on a wiring diagram, but I'm not near a computer just now and it's just a thought I had.

As said, it came equipped with power folding mirrors and I high doubt a previous owner removed the box and replaced it...

Going by the diagrams, the X308 wiring for the mirrors was the same for all model years...

But at the same time, they are in the Can Bus system.

my US specs 01 XJR never came with the power folding mirrors and when i bought the jaguar kit ( that only included both mirrors) to install them, the instruction sheet did not mention any programming and they have been working fine since
