I need an amplifier and CD changer for my 2001 XJR. I do not have the Harmon Kardon system and am aware the HK amp will not work do to the wiring harness but the CD changers are the same. My question is, do the door speaker grills have the Harmon Kardon logo on them? My base system has the Alpine logo on the grills. I am trying to purchase an amp/cd unit from a guy on Craigslist and he won't pull the carpet in the trunk to look. He is a older handicap man. It is a two hour drive to his parts car.

 

They do in my 98.
Also, I have a 02 XJ8 Sport I'm parting.

 

The Alpine isn't the base system it's the premium system, in the earlier cars the premium system was done by Kardon before Alpine took over. The base speakers are Philips branded with plain grills.

 

Thank you for clarifying that. When I unplug my amplifier it makes absolutely no difference in sound. It is getting power though so it's not a fuse issue. Any ideas on that? Maybe I won't need the amp.

 

pulling the amp doesn't kill sound? If I understood that right, then it sounds like a PO may have circumvented the oem amp with an aftermarket one and hidden it away somewhere.

I believe the alpine and HK amps are different(not sure about connectors), the head units definitely are, and I'm not sure about cd changers.

Dealer parts sites may list an interchange for parts if you find the CD changer for your system/model year.

 

have a whole pile of amps and changers, if you could get pics of plug ins might match one up

I'm trying to find an Alpine Subwoofer for the rear shelf, but I can only find one on eBay and that is £115.00. It's a bit out my price range so I'm wondering if you might have one? I know you're in the USA but it's worth a try!

 

Jon, I need a factory-subwoofer too if you have one that is not dry-rotted or has been restored with a new surround.

 

The owner of the 2001 XJ8 parts car just told me there are no logos on the door speakers. Did any XJ8's come with no logos and if so what brand is the stereo system?

 

Base System had no logos

Premium Systems had either Kardon or Alpine logos on the grills.

 

My XJR-100 grills say "alpine" on them.

Just a hint:

The used subs will need replacement of the foam surround, now or in the immediate future.
