Head Help!

Thank you all for putting out this very knowlegable site, this is my first time in a forum, found this one by doing searches on repairing a 01 Vandan Plas, discovered very quickly there is not alot of accurate technical info out there but was very impressed by the knowlege of the people here. As im getting ready to dive into a 4.0 with a bent valve, im sure i'll have alot of questions. I'm a certified diesel mechanic, so i understand theory quite well, but there is a world of difference between a class 8 semi motor and a Jaguar motor! Hate to ask right away, but does anyone know where i can get the specs and procedures for cylinder head R&R and all that goes with that? I bought JTIS, but it does not list procedures, torque values, sequences and such. After 3000.00 already in a repair that the shop still has not fixed correctly and a 5000.00 quote to fix the bent valve, i decided it's time to get a little gas on my hands instead of diesel! Thank you all in advance

Hi
Cylinder Head Removal & install is in the JTIS. Open the JTIS, then select XJ series model - 1998 Year. Use the text navigator - Powertrain, then section 303-01 Engine, then In Vehicle Repair, then Cylinder Head (LH also RH).
Has detailed removal & install steps and illustrations, also torque values.

Try searching for a post by Motorcarman that includes a attachment to a factory engine repair course manual in PDF format.
It is much more complete for engines than JTIS in terms of procedures and torque specs.
The engine coverage is the 3.0 V6 and 4.0 V8 but is probably useful up to the 4.2

Hi
I think I just found the factory engine repair course manual in PDF format that plums mentioned in post# 4. It is on the forums large files mediafire website:
Here is the weblink to the download of the engine repair course manual:
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?6ems6a1yrf5oovc
The V8 engine section starts on page 17 and ends on page 88 -see page 68 for cylinder heads info (pdf page numbers). The V6 engine section starts on page 89 and ends on page 173.
I just happen to find it while I was browsing through the large files thread postings and its mediafire downloads.
