Default Heard of an XJR "Special Edition"?

Thanks to all of you for your help and advice. Picking up my "new" Jag this morning!

Just curious, this one is different than any other XJR I have seen, and I have been looking at a lot of them. Everyone of them have been "monochromatic", a fancy word for meaning "most of the chrome parts have been painted". That includes the grill surround and the cross bar on the trunk. This one does not have that, but retains the chrome. The owner (who bought this new) says he was told it was a Special Edition, and he bought it off the showroom floor that way. My old Lincoln Mk VIII LSC's from that period were similar in the monochromatic look, but I prefer the chrome (as a 60 year old school type of guy).

Anyone know anything about this odd anomaly?

Thanks!
Mike

The only "special edition" XJR was the 2002 XJR 100 and all the exterior trim was blacked-out .
My guess is that your car is a regular XJR with the trunk plinth and grill surround changed by the previous owner or dealer.

Nothing special about it

Maybe it is a VDP w/ Supercharger

Does the trunk say "XJR" or maybe "VDP Supercharged" "Super V8"

The latter two (same car) have different interior and a long wheelbase

Nope, just XJR. Luc is probably right, done by the dealer. I know the owner personally, my sister's next door neighbor, and he bought it that way new.

I have seen a few mostly in white on fleabay and autotrader. I really don't know any history as the monochrome look is the base.

Congratulations, you will love it.

OK, maybe a dealer didn't do it. This has the inner part of the grill, the wire mesh area, and the Chrome XJ standard's had vertical bars. Curious...

No such car, the only factory X308 ltd ed. is the 100. Maybe a request/option for extra chrome pack when the order was placed.

To change just the grill surround is not a big deal.
(See the attached picture of a plain and standard XJ8 with upgraded wheels and mesh grill inserts.)

Aside from the "100" there simply is and was no Special Edition XJR.
And to change out the grill surround and the boot lid finisher with chrome parts does not qualify to call a car a special edition!
Otherwise most of us who has changed or upgraded some part on their cars have to call them a special edition now.

Still no pics of your new toy !

David, your logic is impeccable. So, would you say its custom?

Oh yes, it is very custom!
(And probably unique as well.)
