Default heater hose assembly installation

local shop wants 800! 250 for the heater hose assembly and 550 for labor. can this be a do it yourself job or do you have to remove the exhaust to install the new heater hose assembly? 2003 jag xj8. i can find the part for 100ish new myself, but the location seemed impossibly to change it out wiothout removing the exhaust...and 800 to install a hose is insane.

one more thing where does the third hose go to? one goes to the back of the motor. one goes to coolant tank and one towards the rear? heater core i guess?

let me know if any problems occur, i know the hose on the passenger side is a bit tricky and requires a lot of force

mechanic quoted 800...did it myself for 27..got some heater hose and a few elbow connectors and t connectors as my heater hoses were fine. moved around some hoses to fit in the connectors and spliced in some hose where needed and we are back in business with no leak. lets see how long my fix lasts lol..i felt the driver side hose on the back of the engine was way harder to reach...pretty surprised i did not break anything shoving my giant paws in there

glad you were able to do this fix on your own, the driver side engine block hose was very difficult for me to access as well

thanks! yes that hose was quite the pain in my ***. here is a pic of what i was able to do on the driver side and similar work on the passenger side. had to reroute the hoses somewhat, but it is leak free after 200 miles.
