Default Hello

Introducing myself. I am the second owner of a 1998 XJ8 and have owned it since 2000. Thinking about trying to add some safety features like a back up camera and park assist. Maybe a SAT NAV screen. Happy to see this happy, active forum; never knew it existed. Thank you to the owners and participants!

Welcome to the forums Can't Remember,

I've moved your post from X350 to X308 forum. This is the place to post about your 1998 model.

Graham

These are relatively simple additions.- first pick the hardware you want to use and post on here to see if its compatible.
12V feeds abound in the car so adding in things like a Factory reverse parking kit - the loom is already installed. You can find the sensor & oem kit generally on eBay then its a case of plug and play. Aftermarket may need a little more involvement but should work.

Welcome!

How does the reverse sensor work on the x308? Does it beep through the factory speakers? Or is there something that lights up on the dash? Is there a mounting place for it inside the rear bumper? Is the wiring already there? I didn’t know that this was available, so now I’m intrigued!

The speaker/sounder is on top of the metal parcel shelf, To get to it you have to remove the rear
seat belts and parcel shelf trim

Are we talking about the little sensors on the rear bumpers of 2002-2003 XJ8s that beep when you are getting close to an object? They would not be on a car newer than 2002--or perhaps 2001? My 2000 VDPs and 1999 XJ8 cars did not have those as part or the package. My 2003 XJR does have them.
Or if you're talking about something else...never mind!
