Help with airflow wiring please??

Update, Using the above picture, I rewired the MAFS, closed the airbox and sealed the intake pipe and Guess what? It started, ran a bit lumpy, cleared and all warining lights went out, so took it for a quick spin up the road (naughty, No MOT lol) and it appears to be ok!!
Thanks To everyone with their contributions, next step, MOT, arrrggghhh. Wonder what horrors that will point out!
Thanks

I have a related problem. My gf has a 2000 Jaguar XJ8L. The plug to the maf had a loose wire and was destroyed removing it, I connected the individual wires to the maf according to the way they were in the original plug. It was working fine until like a bonehead I did not record the order to connect them...
Long story short, I disconnected the while replacing the air intake pipe to the throttle body with a new one. Well, I am having trouble getting them reconnected correctly. A while ago I got the wiring diagrams for the car (while working on the throttle body with a bad plug there). The wire colors in our car do not correspond to the wire colors in the diagram. They do however match the wire colors from the older XJ8's in this thread. I think the pin order in the maf has changed though. I think I have it solved, but want some reassurance (it seems I destroyed the maf in this process). Can anyone help. I used the two diagrams to figure out what the original wire colors were running to and then plugged them into the correct connectors according to the pinout information for the 2000 mAF. The temperature sensor is working correctly.
I want to make sure this is right before I install a new maf.

I have the wiring diagram. The color wires i have are
by, gy, wu, bg, up
Following this thread i got very confused...i think i fried the maf.
From comparing the 98 and 2000 diagrams i think i have figured out the relationship to be:
bw-by
Gw-gy
Wu-wu
Bg-bg
O-up
Giving me wu1, by2, gy3, up4, bg5 for pin relationship.
I know this gets me correct temp readings.

I tried that one earlier yesterday. The temperature was not reading correctly. That was when i noticed that the wire pin outs were different between the maf for 98 and the maf for the 2000. Btw, all that you shared was previously in this thread.

You are right - I and others did post some of the same information - see post 18 and 20 from July 2002.
I should have reviewed the earlier posts.
I am not sure the MAF sensor has anything to do with the engine temperature.
MAF is the Mass Air Flow --- amount of Air Flowing through the Air Tube to the Throttle Body.
Engine Coolant Temperature reading comes from the coolant temperature sensor.
It is located in Coolant Outlet Pipe near the Thermostat Tower (look at the front of the engine - next to the top of the Radiator).
Part number is AJ810031 (part number - LRA1600AA is superceded).

Jim,
I realize that. The maf has two circuits. Two of the wires go to the iats which measures the temperature of the air in the intake. Three of the wires go to the maf which measures the volume of air passing.
When I wire my MAF plug with the 98 wire order, I do not get the temperature readings to the ecu (as reported from the ecu through my odb II reader).
If you not, the pins out from the 98 MAF are different than the pins out from the 2000 maf.
Currently my attempt is to figure out the color coding equivalent for my wiring without having to replace the sub harness. It was running fine, but I do not remember the order that my wires were in.
My wife colors correspond to the 98, but the car is a 2000 so the wiring diagram has been helpful, but does not work (I have no orange) and the purpose of the wiring colors that are the same are obviously different.
I have used the 98 wiring diagram to figure out which colors go to which item in the maf, I think but am unsure haw that lines up with ecu. I will say that I used the diagnostics sheet for the maf circuit from the ecu and the voltages/resistances seemed to line up fine. Everything seems within tolerance.
