My 98 xj8 has a cd button on the radio controls but I can't find a cd player or place to insert a Cd. Why is this? Thanks for any help.

IF you have the CD changer, it's in the trunk, left hand side. If you don't you may be able to add it - you can find them on eBay for around $100. Most XJ's have the wiring harness already there in the trunk. You can remove the trim cover from the left side of the trunk - the mount for the changer will be evident, and the wiring harness will be visible. You'll have to cut a hole in the liner if you add the changer.

You must use the Jag CD changer unless you plan on a major stereo overhaul.

 

you mean jaguar makes a car with a button for a cd player and doesn't put the player in the car. That's ridiculous!

Not unusual at all for any car manufacturer. Why would you have a unique head unit or face plate for every option.Imagine the expense of installing a CD changer if you had to replace the head unit as well.

My honda has a button for XM but no XM was/is installed. My Jaguar also has a phone button but no phone is installed.

 

It's used as the "Damn, that button is mocking me; I'm gonna get the CD changer option in my NEXT Jag" button.

My Explorer Eddie Bauer has a phone button with no phone. C'est le vie.

 

On my cd changer the numbers on the radio to select the cd do not correspond with the number disc on the cd changer.
