Actually, just did the conversion.
Buy the H7 Bulb HID kit, the H7 clip adapters (not the twist ones), I also purchased the anti error fault/anti-flickering capacitor, which I didn't have a need for.
I got the 5000k bulb, as they look OEM. from E(B)ay for $55.00 shipped.
ONLY thing I say is don't go cheap ($20-30 kits), if so you be redoing it over, ask me how I know. lol.
Get the SLIM ballast and they HAVE to be metal. The plastic one are cheap, the heat for them and the engine compartment warps the housing and eventually they fail. The ones I had failed in two days.
The process is simple and takes only 10 mins one side and 5 the other.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(CAUTION)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I clipped the headlight wire harness, long enough, so if I want to go back stock, I can.
I solder and strink wrap the HID wire harness to the car wire harness. Fish the HID bulb wires though the adaptor, install the bulb as you would normally do and the rest is plug and play
Mounting the ballast on the drivers side was the hardest, the passenger side is the easiest. Once you get in there you see where to mount them.
Make sure you drive and adjust accordingly, after two drive cycles I got it right.
The basic thing to look at, is the rear of a car in front of you, make sure the car is about two car lengths in front of you and adjust the beam to the height of the car's bumper. On average they all are about the same height, give or take a couple inches.

Sorry about the delay in responding to this, the Hurricane set me back on my to do list.
Well after installing the HIDs I had to take the out, because the passenger side Ballast keeps burning out. I went though two sets, it would be hard to say it was the ballast, because I tried two different brands. The first I figured it probably wouldn't last because they were cheap. The second set seems to be somewhat a better build.
So, I am going to hold off on redoing the HID conversion until January. So, far, I found the digital ballast is the best to get and instead of the 35 watts set I will opt for the 55 watts set (brighter).
I also notice the second set, the light beam flicker light a candle light. Just maybe the second set was poor design too.
So, if you going to do it, get a set where the ballast are digital and opt for the 55W instead of the 35W.

For the downside of HID "conversions" see:
Daniel Stern Lighting Consultancy and Supply
Or at least read the proper procedure for aiming headlights at the same site.

As for the bulbs, I've been recommended 55w. Curious as to your ballast issue. Busy with my Alfas so will hold off until get more info.
