High level brake light
Hi. Can anyone tell me how the high level brake light assembly fastenes in position?
I have a 2000 XJ8 and the brake light is loose and wedged against the rear window with an air freshener underneath it otherwise it just flops about on rear parcel shelf i would like to fix it properly if possible...
All suggestions gratefully accepted..
Kindest Regards.

Hi John,
Sounds like the glue on the clips has deteriorated. From memory, there should be 2 clips that are stuck to the glass and then the light fitting attaches to them.
Get yourself some good quality glass adhesive. Clean the glass with white spirit and then re-attach the 2 clips. When dry, refit the light.
Take your time and get your measurements right or you will have to do it again. It is a bit tight at the back there, it took me 2 attempts to get it done.
Hope this helps,

I haven't done this on an X308 but it sounds like the setup is the same as an X300 which I have done.
Adhesive doesn't last too long on these because of the weight of the Stop Lamp and I found the 3M double sided strips used for fixing number plates was more effective. Fix to the metal clips, trim to size and then re-attach to the screen.
Three years later when I sold the car, it was still firmly in place.
