Now that is a much better match than many of the other proposed swaps lately. I assume by '03 you mean the 4.0L out of a '03 XJR and not the 4.2L used in the '03 XK8. If so I would suspect that it is really the same engine and may well plug-N-play.

The 4.2L into a 4.0L car is an entirely different matter.

I'm afraid my earlier response to this question in the other thread, when read with Test Point's response here, might be a little confusing. Hopefully I can clear it up. To be truly plug-n-play, your safest bet is an engine from an 00-03 XJR. To avoid unecessary part swapping or other modifications to the engine and related components, you should avoid supercharged engines from 97-99 cars, 03+ XKR and S-Type R, and 04+ XJRs, as well as all normally aspirated variants. While engines from those cars will work, they aren't direct exchanges and require some parts swapping or modifications (such as changing camshafts, flywheels, sensors, oil sump, etc. or modifying manifolds, among other possible changes) that may not be worth the added expense. I think the engine from an 00-02 XKR may work, but I'm not sure if it it requires any major changes to facilitate the swap. I hope that clears up what may be confusing between my earlier post and Test Point's post. Maybe Test Point or someone else can help me out if I just made it worse.

Also, check the number of oil pressure sensors down by the oil filter. Both cars should have 2. We had one car come through here that had only one sensor. We had to change the sandwich plate. Not to bad of job, but why not avoid it if you can.

Default 2003 4.0 motor to my 2002 XJR

Thanks for the helpful words, I am swapping a 2003 4.0 motor to my 2002.
I hope everything will go well. I don't think there are any changes ,electronics are my biggest concerns. Rich
