It's night here now and before I continue the fight with that clip tomorrow, I thought I ask for help here.
After removing the timing chains, I am also in the process of removing the air intake...
X308 XJ8 1999 3.2L AJ27
But there is now a clip, which I cannot remove:
Circled in red: That clip fixes a T-piece (of a passing tube) to the lower throttle body.
I already pulled that plastic-clip, which is an integral part of the clip, which I can't get off.
And this is the top view of that mysterious clip design.
Does anyone know, how I can remove that clip so that I can finally take the air-intake out? Cheers.
You don't remove that U clip, you push it further in which will release the Tee from the adapter on the intake elbow and you can then pull/wiggle the Tee out.
I find that plastic release "U" to be a pain. Two very small flat head screwdrivers inserted into the slots on the connector work every time for me with no damage and less pressure.
I did it. I actually tried the same thing already yesterday, but it requires first a huge conviction that that is the MO to wiggle it off, otherwise you would not wiggle enough, and you that's it then.
Also: Placing such a connection-system into such an utterly inaccessible location was another gaffe by Jag.
So the way to get that clip off is exactly as I did it: First I had to remove the complete fuel-rail-system (to get that out of the way), then I had to tell the air-intake "Roll over!" (like to a dog), and only then I can do as above.
By the way, if not already known: the U-shaped clip shown in the picture is the official tool from Jaguar to loosen for example the part load breather hose etc. ;-)
Moin, Bernd! Gruesse nach Koeln. Habe da auch ein paar Jahre gewohnt und gearbeitet (Ford natuerlich, und dann Jaguar in Coventry um am X400 zu designen - dorthin geschickt von einer Firma in Koeln.)
Hi Peter, here is winter now and some snow, you are sitting in the sun, aren`t you?;-) Today I wanted to work a little bit on my newly acquired XJR at my garage, but temperatures are below zero. Best greetings!
Nice green on the XJR. Most of my Jags are green. Yes, the temperature here are pretty much ideal all year round to fiddle around on Jags. We have a very "cold" summer currently - about 25°C, where it is normally above 30. When you start working on a Jag, normally you always find more things to fix than anticipated. If you need ideas: An ATF full flush is probably due... - and you should stick to the recommended ATF.
