Question How Do I Read This Part #?

Hello Gentlemen:

I consider myself relatively bright, but for the life of me I can't understand the way the parts software specs things based on VIN #'s.

For example... (see image attached)... I'm looking for the multi-disc CD player that the dealer who sold me the car advertised as being part of the car... only for me to realize that it wasn't in the car. (Yes, I should have tried everything, I know, I know. I didn't even know the thing was in the trunk. If I would have known, I would have seen the big open hole with no CD player in it!

Anyway... relating to the VIN, the software presents 2 separate CD players. For one it says FROM (with a VIN #).... and the other says TO (with a different VIN #). My VIN is showing on the image.

I don't get this FROM and TO business. Each items has to have both a FROM and TO to make sense or how do you know where the "cut off" is?

In other words... let's say your part # is 500 (for the sake of simplicity). How could it make sense for me to list 2 items, where item #1 is for cars starting (FROM) the VIN of 1.... and the other item for cars TO the VIN of 1,000??? Both items would apply. How could you not have a "TO" for each item?

Does this make sense to anyone, or is Alzheimer's setting in already?

So... do I need the item highlighted in YELLOW or PINK?

Thank you, gentlemen.

SirJag

(Phew! I hope I'm not terribly embarrassed by the responses I get to this. If so, I'm getting a brain scan and will stop telling people how "relatively bright" I am.)

Can't see the image.

But...

In the Jaguar parts catalogue nomenclature ...

you can interpret

TO as meaning "up to and including"

FROM as meaning "from this number upwards"

edit: the image just showed up. you need the "new", ie. pink

Default We had ours replaced in 2007 by extended warrantee

Hi SirJag
Yes, my wife wore out the cd autochanger by playing all of the mystery stories cds from the local public library.
Our extended warrantee covered it. The local Jaguar Service department replace it with a factory rebuilt one (part# LNF4160AAR. It was billed at $660 less the core value of $500. Net cost was $160 plus the install of $95.

The top heading "From (V)812317 to (V)F595525 tells you that the one you want is the one that you highlighted in pink (the from Vin (F00035)).

From VIN (F00035) covers VIN numbers from F00035 to F595525.
Your F38783 is in this VIN number grouping and the part number for your Autochanger is LNF4160AA.

The other choice "From (V)878817" covers VIN numbers from 878817 to F00034.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Jim... that does help.

But I don't see where you see that each FROM has a TO (thereby showing a range).

For example... I see where you see "F00035 " but don't see where you see "to F595525 (which is, as you say, the upper range limit). Where am I not looking?

Thanks Uncle Jag!

Hi

The range you first selected from all of the vin ranges was "From (V)812317 to (V)F59525" from the previous EPC screen.

Looks like they are using 2 VIN number range segments: the lower one is from 812317 to 878717 (your yellow colored area). The upper one is from F00035 to F59525 (your pink colored area).

At least that is the way I understand it.
Sorry I had used the wrong vin numbers in my first post.

Ohhhhh... I see. I hadn't thought for a second about the first set of ranges from the VERY FIRST menu... now it makes sense. Thank you, Jim!

It's also telling you that LNC4160AA has been superceded to a new part # (LNF4160AA) in this case
