How Do You Drive Your Jag?
#42
I drive fast no matter what car I drive and I actually have a clean driving record. The thing that kills me as I haven't been "challenged" yet with the Jaguar but idiots have challenged me with my previous Nissan beater. I respect my cars by not taking sharp corners fast but I don't hesitate to accelerate. I will admit that my XJ VDP takes off much better then my Crown Vic I live one day at a time, if I bust something I will deal with it when the time comes.

[QUOTE=J I always wait until the trans is engaged and in gear before hitting the throttle. I'm a little careful of the door handles inside and out. ...[/QUOTE]
That describes exactly what I do as well. When the car is cold, it takes a second for the trans to engage into gear and I'm always sure that when my foot comes of the brake that the gear is completely engaged. Door handless, too. Nice and gentle.

I typically put the shifter in R, then in D and once ready push on the right pedal, that is how i drive mine.
Weak humor.
My XJR and I are just getting to know one another, so we are slowly becoming friends. I did let her stretch her legs once, at a light with a 2002 mustang sitting next to me, long on ramp with two lanes. At 60 I was about 3 car lengths in front of the stang with the 20 something dude worried and confused. my 2 passengers waved to the stang when the light turned green. that was the first kill and the XJR was smiles when i left off her go pedal to let the stang catch up. it was a nice first date with many more safe sprints to come.

Had a lady in an SUV pull up in a non-lane(right) at a red light. She actually thought she would outsprint me away from the light!!! LMFAO.
I pulled away at all times ahead of her while looking directly at her!!! It was funny to see. She got the message FAST!!
This is way too fun!!!

Los Angeles driving...
So generally I drive like I've got all day to get there... the easing into speed..., the coasting into a stop... mostly because gas mileage is abysmal in the stop-and-start that is Los Angeles...
But sometimes on the weekend, I switch Sport mode on and let her rip! I use the 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears, and let the engine rev hig to get some real speed before I shift... It's a thrum and a roar that makes a girl a bit weak in the knees!
It is so much fun, I have considered taking the car (1998 VDP) to the racetrack for a lesson in real speed! (If anyone in LA can recommend a course or track please do!)

Even better is if you have females in the car. Ask them to make the one inch sign using the little finger, sort of like ok, but with the tip of the thumb at the first joint of the little finger.
You won't have to teach them. There is not a single female in the world who does not know how to make the sign and what it means.
There was a campaign a couple of years ago in Australia where young ladies made the sign at dangerous drivers. Apparently, the universal sign got the message across quite clearly.

I drive generally pretty gently, but about half the time I drive in Sport and thrash that 3000-4000 range for the great snarling V8 sound.
Sometimes, I pull into the garage, shift into neutral as it rolls to a stop, and slide it into park right before it rolls back.So the car doesn't "bump in" to either side of P. It just gently stops with the transmission. I treat the J-Gate carefully, if you're hard on it the lights inside burn out, or stuff breaks.
Anyone else notice the adjustable-flooring button under the accelerator? How far do you have yours down? You can adjust the maximum pedal travel quite a lot actually.

I was wondering what that was, didn't know it was adjustable.

If you twist it to the left, it loosens, and it can be pushed in/ pulled out. And then if you push it in and tighten, you can floor the car harder. If you pull it out, then tighten it, you can save some fuel and perhaps overworking your car .

I probably drive my Jag like a lot of people here. I cruise most of the time when on the interstate and likely just putt around in the city to save fuel. But if some guy at the stoplight is bold enough to challenge an XJR, I will gladly school him by handing him his *** (by showing mine to him).
Being a hoodlum is not the way to go through life, so I've done very few burnouts and doughnuts.

My everyday car is a 2004 Tbird. I drive it around town (well actually suburbia) and get on it when I have to, but not often. The problem with the Tbird is it sucks on long drives. Seats are too thin and the lumbar adj is a joke.
But I love the car for short stuff. Say up to maybe, 100 miles.
So I bought the Jaguar strictly for the long trips. I do 2 to 4 of these a year.
So my Jaguar sees 6000 to 12000 miles a year at cruising speeds...70-80MPH.
At least that is the plan. It was bought to be a cruiser.
I haven't owned it for very long and have only made one trip so far.
That was 3300 miles from Fl to OK and back.
Flawless. And extremely comfortable on my crushed disc back.
Unbelievable MPG. 25MPG was the worst.......
Next trip to PA/NJ in 10 days..... Looking forward to it.
