Default How good are ASI Throttle Body rebuilds?

Gentlemen - I need a throttle body for my XJR and would rather not spend $2.1K with Jaguar for a factory one. I would like to know how many of you have bought reconditioned TBs from ASI, and what your success rates have been with them.
If you will, I would like to know both the good and the bad.
Thanks,

Had my 2003 XJ8 TB rebuilt by them some 5,000 miles ago, cost about $260 (up to 350 now). Car has been faultless since, prior to that it gave me all sorts of trouble codes and failsafe mode. Very happy, especially as Jaguar dealership would want to put in a new TB for about $1800.

I had my 2000 XJR rebuilt by ASI in September 2012. It solved my problem and saved me $2000.00 + and my car is still running fine a year and a half later. The added benefit to me was that my mechanic let me remove the throttle body and reinstall it in his shop. The experience benefitted him as well because he had not known about ASI. So now the mechanic can offer future customers another far less expensive option.

One thing I should mention is that when ASI returns the throttle body, you may have to adjust the throttle position sensor (easy to do after loosening 2 torx screws). ASI had set the sensor to its maximum advance position which causes a very engine high RPM. I had to retard it half way to get it around 650 RPM's. But the instructions that come with the rebuilt throttle body will forewarn of this. Maybe you can call Will at ASI and have them set it halfway before shipping it back.

I really like having a resource that I can rely on like ASI for variety of automotive rebuilds; not just throttle bodies.

What was the turn-around time on this?
I finally need to bite the bullet and get my throttle body rebuilt. There is a local option, but I'm not sure I trust them with this, plus also, apparently it may cost up to US$850 to get it done through them. The ASI option looks a lot better, even if it means an extra week or two off the road, and end up costing about the same after shipping

In my case, it was about 10 days total for standard ground shipping with 2 weekends so only about 6 working days. I shipped out my throttle body on Aug. 28th and received it back on Sep. 7th. I believe you can pay a few dollars more for expedited return shipping.
ASI had a promotion on EBAY for $325.00 to rebuild the throttle body.
I was curious as to what ASI does technically to accomplish the rebuild. So I called Will at ASI and put the question to him. His reply was that the procedure is proprietary and he could not disclose what they do. My gut feeling is that they diagnose the circuit board attached to the throttle body and simply repair / replace a failing component (e.g. resistor, diode, capacitor, etc.). In any event, the $325.00 was worth it to me. Good luck.

I highly recommend them. Great service and turn a round.
ASI responded with a expedited effort to get the rebuild work completed and available for shipping within 6 hours of receiving the throttle body at their facility.

Thanks for the responses guys, I'd certainly feel more comfortable getting a rebuilt through them, than the local option.

I did however, find this
New Genuine Jaguar XJ8 XK8 XJR XKR Throttle Body Assembly C2A1470 | eBay

Seem like it's a brand new part, and they have confirmed that this is the right part for my car. It looks like the better way to go, might as well get a new one for the same price as a rebuild

That part number C2A1470ek (old part number was LCC1560AA1) throttle body for A26 Engine 1998 to 1999 XJR & XJ8 - Gaudin Jaguar discount price $363.73.

Jaguar Classic Parts website - LCC1560AA1 (revised to C2A1470ek) - To VIN (878717 for XJR and F00103 for XJ8) 1999 A26 Engine:

Part no. LCC1560AA1 | Throttle body parts from Jaguar Classic Parts UK

Here is a Photo of it on Ebay:

You need part number C2A1445 throttle body for 2000 to 2003 XJR A27 Engine:

Part no. C2A1445 | Throttle body parts from Jaguar Classic Parts UK

4.0 Litre supercharged XJR from VIN F00103 - Gaudin Jaguar discount price $1757.44.

The Ebay listing by Traunton Jaguar is for XJ A26 Engine (C2A1470ek) - without air assisted fuel injection But the Photo appears not to be a throttle body for Jaguar XJ X308, Correction it probably is a photo of the bottom of throttle body at stated by forum member grandell in post #9 - still not sure photo is C2A1470ek or C2A1445, listing should have shown the top of the throttle body.

You need a throttle body for XJR A27 Engine - with air assisted fuel injection part number C2A1445.

Here is a photo of 2000 XKR Throttle Body (same part number as XJR A27):

That Ebay listing has some errors in it (see the difference - top photo has black Cap shaped part).

Yeah I did notice that as well. I sent them my VIN and they confirmed that it was the correct part. I was also specific about my car having the AJ27 engine, and that I thought I needed the version with air assisted injection.

It looks like the photo in the Ebay auction is of the bottom of the TB, not the top... Hopefully I'll get an email back from them tomorrow confirming whether it's the right part or not.

Thumbs up

OK, I pulled the trigger on a rebuilt Throttle Body and now will answer my own question: I ended up doing business with ASI and it was a good experience. Customer service was competent and they shipped my order quickly. Since I didn't want to have the car down for several days, I opted to buy one of their already rebuilt TBs and installed it last Sunday without any issues. Like Metoymi, the TPS was set for way too high an idle, and I had to re-position it to get it where I wanted it. The only minor snag was with the TORX Plus screws that are used on the TPS. Standard Torx bits do not fit these screws, so I would suggest planning for that prior to doing a swap if you are going to do the work yourself.

The end result is that the car runs smoothly, uses less fuel, and there is not any indication of "flameout" on the freeway like I had before (Restricted Performance, Failsafe, ASC Not Available).

Fantastic!

I FINALLY managed to make contact with them through their website Automotive Scientific Inc. Your #1 Source for ECU, TCU, ABS, EBCM, Climate Control and Speedometer Repairs
We're now working out the logistics of getting a rebuilt unit sent here, possibly via maxbore, although I don't want to risk voiding the warranty.

Hopefully there will be some proper progress by the end of this week!

Thanks for the read and feel good about ASI. I called them directly and I bought one off the shelf today. They said it should arrive by weekend. I will return mine fir a hundred dollar core charge. I got sick of Limp mode. Hope this will be a permanent "Viagra".
Thanks

I've had a good 18 months with my ASI TB and it's still working perfectly.

Just remember to read the instructions! You may have to adjust the TPS sensor slightly, but it's as simple as loosening two screws, rotating it slightly, and tightening it back up.

I'm new to this jaguar forum and i hate to hack in and change the subject but i recently removed my throttle body frim my 98 xj8 valden plas to clean it and noticed a black rubber had been broken from the bottom next to the metal fluid hose off the bottom. Can anyone tell were this hose to connect to or better a picture of hose diagram?

ASI did a pretty good job so far but I only have it in my 1999 xk8 for 2 weeks.
So far the only thing I don't like is that they just told me it will take close to a month to get my $100.00 core deposit back. When I ordered it they asked me to get it back ASAP as they were short on them. They said would send deposit back quickly. Over a month is not quickly.

XKEOTS -
You will have to bug them for it. This was the only downside to my ASI "experience". It took them 4 months to refund my core deposit.

TB has been working perfectly though, so there is that.

Good luck.

I got a reman throttle for my 1999 Xk8 from ASI and all codes left. I just flew back from Florida where I drove the 1999 XK8 down and it is in my garage on a Deltron tender Jr. All good! The $389.00 is worth every penny. Great job.
