How much did you pay for your Jag? (fun survey - % of value when new)
According to MSRP + sales tax, I bought my '02 VDP at a mere 6% of its value new + add another 2% for repair costs to make it like-new again.
So basically, I paid just 8% of what the first owner paid 9-years ago for the exact same experience, but in exchange for 92% depreciation, mine required about a month of TLC...
How about everyone else?

08 XK Convertible
08 XK Convertible with Luxury Package, Alpine Stereo Package, and upgraded 19" Wheels, with 30,000 miles on the odometer. Purchased January 2011 for $40,000.00
I understand the original sticker was just under $90,000.00 in January 08.
$50,000.00 in depreciation in just under three years.
I have to wonder what the residual was since this car was originally a lease...

What a great post!
I paid a mere 11% of list, not calculating tax. (List MSRP was just under $68,000 in 2001.)
I'd say about $3,000 to get it in tip-top shape. (Not tooo bad, right?)
The body is nearly perfect... just a couple minor things.... but paint is immaculate. The interior is pretty darn good too. The dealer actually had most of the driver's seat reupholstered so it looks nearly completely new.
Like you... I can say that for about $3k in repairs, I saved over $57,000 in depreciation. Now THAT'S how I like to buy 'em!
I like the way you think. Thanks for the post!

I came in at just under 14% of MSRP. I paid $9,500 one year ago with 39,400 miles and MSRP was $68,450. I have have done nothing other than normal maintenance so no additional cost to rehab. I have put 24,000 miles on it since purchase, and have only done the usual suspects of brakes, tires, belts, plugs, oil changes, fuel filter, etc.
This has been a tremendous value, which is what all my research indicated that it would be. I expect to drive this one for three more years, which would put it in the 130,000 mile range and I will then sell it and buy another, probably a XKR around a '03 to '05 model.

When the tranny went out it was the final straw. Dealer quoted him $7,500. He was either going to give it to me or to charity - that was a no brainer decision on my part - 68,000 miles and a perfect body, interior and paint. Since I'm an EE too, and a whole lot younger, the little issues are simply 'challenges' for me. I'm loving this beauty!

11.9% of MSRP for 2001 XJ8 w/130k. This is including a complete timing chain job, waterpump/thermostat, and a new set of tires. It's not as low as some, but after seeing the quality of upgrades to the timing components and waterpump over OEM, the car's now in better shape mechanically than when she came off the production line.
