How to replace rear-view mirror? Or any way to fix loose mirror?
The plastic teeth around the rearview mirror ball joint have partially broke off making the retaining ring fall off with the slightest movement, so now each bump in the road makes the mirror point downward to the floor (yes, it's really annoying!)
Any way to secure the tension on the ball joint now that the surrounding plastic teeth are half-gone? I was thinking like a twist tie or injecting some viscous gel in there - anyone have any experience with this?
If not and I need to change the mirror, where is the harness connectors, under the mirror or under the sunroof-control ceiling box? If the latter, how can I access the connectors without removing the whole ceiling?
Also, how does the mirror come off? I noticed a retaining tab on the lower-side of the mirror/window mount but depressing it does not allow the mirror to slide off.
Thank you!!!

I am also going through the repair process for our 2001 xj8 interior rear view mirror.
Our mechanic removed the mirror yesterday.
Here is a photo of the removed mirror and its wiring connectors - has rain sensor, auto dimming, lights automatically also go off and come on - based on amount of daylight or night.
Also I created this other jpeg file that has removal instructions I found on our jaguar forum:
JTIS removal/install:
Here is the information on the mirror repair service in Michigan:
Do not send the other plastic piece you removed (back cover).

I'm glad I came across this thread, as i'm having a similar problem with my rear view mirror. It is still useable, but falls often and is becoming annoying. I checked out sybesma's website and they do list the mirror repair services, and I googled them. Most BMW guys rave about their services (restoring auto-dim when the fluid fails).
Has anyone had direct experience with them and a Jag mirror that no longer holds itself up?

Found more pics in second post....Mine would not stay on the ball at all.I finally got brave and drilled out a 1/2" or so hole in the back of the mirror and glued a rubber hose that fits the ball tightly, it slides on the ball and I can still adjust it. It's held for 3 years so far....I had step by step pictures but lost them somewhere...lol
I just posted a thread on where these wires go, in what order I mean. they broke off when the mirror dropped

Both of mine have the beginnings of ball/socket issue. They still hold in place. The plastic used in making the mirror case is like that of the center rear brake light -- suffers from sun damage. Getting one from e-bay can be difficult -- many of them have the same problem.
Has anyone sent back to Sybesma for just the plastic case>
