How to section? Coil replacement?
Hi all,
Hate to post the generic, where do I find stuff post, but I've exhausted my searches and still can't find what I need.
I'm looking for a "how to replace a coil" post, preferably with pictures.
Is there a generic "how to" section with posts of how to repair certain things?
I found this: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...k-links-20090/ but that didn't have anything on replacing a coil.
Thanks in advance.
Erich

A marine working on a Jag? Now I'm really worried.
Seriously, you don't really need a procedure and pictures. The coil covers are on top of the valve covers, held on by six bolts, 7mm. The coils have two bolts same size. Unplug and grasp the coil firmly and pull it out. Do you know which one you want to replace? The cylinder layout is in the DIY sticky.
When replacing the bolts are torqued to 4Nm (35 lb/in), using the original screws.

You have to be very careful with the electrical connectors, which should be removed prior to lifting out the coil (once the bolts are removed of course).
The connector plugs have tabs on the top which need to be raised slightly to allow the plug to be pulled away from the coil.
The safest way is to gently raise the tab with a flat screwdriver, then insert a thin flat wood sliver, about 4mm, between the coil body and the end of the connector plug, and twist to loosen the plug. If you just pull it theres a chance of damaging the wiring IMO. If you have a cordless drill use it with a socket adaptor to remove /partially refit the bolts - it saves quite a lot of time believe me, but your back probably isn't as creaky as mine !
The plugs can be gently snapped back onto the coil on re-assembly
