I relation to the A box gear, it is my understanding that by the 2003 XJ8 that was upgraded to be much less of an issue. Is this anyone else's understanding as well?

Nope. Ot was never updated along the lines of the XJ. Jaguar always ordered the cheap version of the tranny. Around 2005 the box received some major alterations and changes including a different valve body with less wear, not retrofitable though.

If you shut off traction control you are liable to spin tires but it will not help acceleration.

Flooring it in D will probably be as good as it gets, but you don't have a dragster.

Lastly, be aware that the A drum is the weak point in the transmission and stressing it by calling for max from standstill may hasten it's failure. And never rev in neutral and shift into gear.

When I shut off traction control I don't peel out. Not that I want to. Is something wrong if it doesn't peel out with traction control turned off?

If you mean wheel spin... No, nothing is wrong if it doesn't. Depending on tires, weight, surface etc., you will get loads of slip or none at all. Imonly get alip onnwet roads.

I think xjr transmissions are more reliable than xj8 ones.

Looks like Ronco1 drives a Guppy II conversion. Advice from GEZRCAT: Grace and Space are 1 and 2. The "Pace" worked just fine at 130 mph when RiceRocket next to my door "gave up" on the "Geezer" he couldn't pass. Didn't even need S!

Muhammad, the XJR has a Mercedes transmission instead of the ZF box.

trottier.ed... Looks like you know your submarines. Actually it's a pic of USS COBBLER SS 344 and one of nine conversions from Guppy II to Guppy III ( added 15ft section, return of 4th Jimmie Diesel, fiberglass North Atlantic sail, ),.... Served on her in luxurious comfort ( ya right) for a delightful "barrier" run.

Always fun to horrify some "kiddie" when he gets blown away by an old geezer in an "old man's car". The look on their face ( the WTF was that ? "look") is always hilariously the same

Well when I received the car back from a full transmission rebuild, it was in sport mode. I've left it there & must say I enjoy it ! Only thing is the kick down while in cruise control on hills etc. a bit more noticeable.

Awesome looking car! I'm in Braintree and eyeing one to purchase.
Can i ask how long you've had it, and any repair/maintenance $$?
I live in Braintree, South of Boston, do you have any experience with service specialists in or around Boston?
Tom
