Default I now have the feeling I got a pup of a XJ

Hi my Jag friends
I got my self what I hoped a very nice 4.0 super charged 2001 XJR (the 370bhp one) the deal I did from my working out made the car worth about £3000.

After 2 1/2 months ond day the engin worning came on with

Engin safty mode
No ABS
No Tractsion control (ATC or somthing like that )
And I lost all power
Swich the engin off lock the car unlock then it would run fine.
At first it didnt do it again for 2 weeks but over the next two or so months it steadly deterated.
I then got my self a diagnostic tool from my limited understanding it said throttle body sencer is stuffed .
I have since taken it to a garage got it scaned propley here is what came up.

PO430 catalyst system efficiency below freshold(bank 2)
P1229 electronic throttle control circuit malfunction
P1260 security input

I then got the throttle Body cleaned and all conectors looked at by the garage in a vain hope that this would sort at least part of the problem.
(It was well coked up)

It lasted 2 days befor loseing power again (only once so far and work done 3 days ago)
also only seems to hapen round town.

for a new throttle body off ebay is about £300 but thats the one with out air assisted fuel injection and it looks like mine has air assist.

I cant find one of them and a main dealer price is ball park £1300.

Any help you good people can give would be great.

My choices are to pass on to somone else (but I love the looks styiling and when working well the way it flys)

or cheep fix ( can the throttle body be changed easly for one of them cheeper ones)

Thanks in advance Sean

PS sorry about the rambling way of thes thread and the spelling this is not my strong sute.

Hallo Sean

These cars can be a bit frustrating!

Not sure about the engine problem, but the ABS/Traction control is likely to be dirty wheel speed sensors or bad connections where the leads connect to the main loom in the wheel arches. I would recommend whipping the sensors out and cleaning them and the exciter wheels in the hubs too. Do a search on here for better in depth info on that.

Good luck.

Check and replace your battery.

Clean the wheel speed sensors.

Do a "Hard Re-Boot." Search the forums for how to do this.

Clean all the TB and MAF sensor connections under the hood.

That may take care of some if not all of your problems.

These cars hate a low or failing battery.
