Ignition Switch Problems

I have a 1998 Jaguar XJ8. Recently turning the key while in the ignition switch becomes hard to turn. Now is takes quite a bit of effort and sometimes pushing down on the steering wheel helps.
Has anyone else had an issue like this? The key goes in but will not turn completely to start the car,
Thanks,

Hi ho PAJ,
Assuming there are not mechanical issues with your lock, the reason I suggest fine powdered graphite to free up stuck locks, is that graphite does not attract and hold dirt and dust, as in petroleum lubricants. Over time, the petroleum lubes will actually gum-up lock tumblers with the attracted dirt.
Other lubricants such as Tri-flow or Silicone based lubes do not attract dirt or dust as well, and will successfully free up locked tumblers too.
