I'm baffled

Well, after all the multiple issues on this car, the non starting, the 'engine failsafe mode' warnings, unable to start with the stick in 'P' and various other glitches that made the car totally undriveable I think the problems have been solved, maybe temporarily but we will see. I drove the car yesterday for 2 miles and came home, no problems, today I drove the car 6 miles, no problems, tomorrow I'll take it on a proper run and see what happens. How did all the glitches disappear and make the car mobile again ? Just one thing, a "hard reset". As soon as I had done the hard reset, the car just started on the button and ran as smooth as silk. I'm so tempted to sell the car now that it's running but I love it so I stick with it and see what happens. Watch this space !!!
Grateful thanks to Brutal and Gus for their patience and their depth of knowledge of this exceedingly complicated and infuriating mode of transport.

Never a good day when the car fails to do what you want it to do. It is even less fun when you are trying to find the problem that does not exist, a little like driving the car blindfolded. I am so pleased that you are up and running again. A dam shame that we did not try that first.
On the road again!

You said early on, that you did a hard reboot with no improvement. What's the difference between this hard reboot and the hard reset that you now say resolved your issues?

The first time I did the hard reset I only kept the neg on the pos for about 10 seconds. The second time I kept it on there for about a minute. I was past caring at that stage and thought that if I burn anything out I'll just sell the car to a breaker and get about a grand for it and put it down to experience. Anyway I'm just about to take it out for a good run and I'll see how it goes. It may still end up in the junkyard, which would be a great pity but we'll see.

Just back from a 30 mile round trip which was completely uneventful, the car drove like a dream. Switched the engine off on my driveway and let it settle for a couple of minutes then re-started. Stick in 'P', no start, 'engine failsafe mode'. Stick in 'N' started immediately and ran perfect. So there is still a glitch in there somewhere.

It sounds like the shifter selector switch. I just called my transmission guy and he told me that the transmission selector switch is on the side of the transmission. So it seems to me that it could be removed cleaned or replaced without a great deal of effort. I have not done this but feel it can be done.
Second thought it could be out of adjustment.
