Default I'm excited :-)

....my new front suspension/subframe/steering bush kit parts arrived today (xmas present to myself)....looking forward to tearing the front out to finally lose the annoying knocking....but wish it wasn't quite so cold to lie on the garage floor for a couple of days....

Awfull cold over here too. In the 50s during the day, and low 40s at night. Luckily the garage is fully insulated (all five of them), and the propane heater works well!

Just finished some work on the MBZ, and garage was cozy warm.

Get yourself one of those propane heaters, turn on the music, make sure you have plenty of good German beer (may I suggest "Franziskaner"?), and go to town on it! Good luck.

ive got an insulated garage as well, but i simply use a radiator heater, it gets the garage up to about 65 i think, might have to try the propane heater as Daniel recommended, but the cold weathers put you in a tiresome mindset making you not want to do anything. i have to get my timing covers off, but simply have no motivation to do it, its depressing looking at the cat sitting in the garage

I will try to take some pics as I go through it.....no doubt the job will get bigger than I expect....I have a feeling I will be breaking out the welder at some point for the front chassis rail behind the shocks...

The hardest part for me when I replaced all of the everything was getting the old bushings out. I found that pressing out the center sleeve first and then carefully cutting a notch into the outer sleeve was a huge time saver. I used a jigsaw and worked slowly so as not to cut into the control arms. Once the notch is cut i used a cold chisel to bend in the sleeve and then they popped right out

For the ball joints you need to cut off most of the top flanges in order to get enough surface area on the control arms for a tube/socket to seat without angling off underr pressure. The ball joints are are in really tight and it sounds like a gun shot when they finally give
Good luck with the project

Danielsand is right- it has been bitterly cold here- I think we saw 32 in some spots. Thank goodness we are back to 70 during the day!

I prefer "Dutchie" beer myself- no preservatives!
