Installing footrest / dead pedal: Need to drill
#1

Good morning all!
I am installing a new footrest that I made.
I will post up some pics, when I am done.
Does anyone know if it is safe to drill where
the current foot rest is?
I would like to drill exactly where the rubber
pad is, but I don't know
if there is any wiring under there.
Thanks for your help

Here is what I bought.
Fit for 09 Chevrolet Cruze at MT Footrest Pedal Cover Foot Rest Pad Left Hand | eBay
It's stainless steel and the rubber pads are nice.
I cut out some wood in this exact shape,
and painted it black.
Painted the wood block black and attached this pedal to the wood
using 3M emblem and trim foam tape.
I made my pedal 2.5" thick and it is VERY comfortable for me.
This pedal looks really nice and fits the footwell very well.
People in the UK must have extraordinarily long legs.
I am 6"1" and I feel like a little kid, as I cannot
reach that rubber pad for my left foot.
I hope to drill a few holes and get it mounted.
I tried using the 3M tape to mount it, but
with the new height it does not feel stable.
TIA for your advice.

Decided not to go with them.
Back on topic, do you know the answer to my query?

Could this be one of those things that do not quite work when putting the steering wheel on the wrong side ? I don't have long legs ( but they do reach the ground ) and have no problem with the position of my foot rest, it is more or less in line with the throttle pedal, but is of course on the transmission tunnel .

I finally found the right dead pedal for my car.
First, I pulled off the factory rubber foot pad.
I bought a large black pedal / foot rest.
Bought some 2" thick dense closed cell foam.
Cut out the foam to match the foot rest.
Used contact cement to attach the foot rest to the foam,
and to glue the foam to the floor.
(I did a test on some scrap foam and carpet first.)
Here is the result:

I need to trim a little of the foam on the bottom of the foot rest as you can see in the photo.
Otherwise it is done.
Gluing the foot rest to the carpet with contact cement works well.
It is rock solid.
Unlike Vector, I did not want to install billet pieces to the gas and brake pedals. The gas and brake pedals are close enough and the foot well is small.
I need a dead pedal that will fit my size 13 foot.
This is nice, comfy, and does not look aftermarket.
The foot rest is 2" high, which feels right to me.
The dense closed cell foam is solid.
Almost forgot: To add some grip to the foot rest, I sprayed it with spray on bed liner. The stuff wears like iron, and gives just the right amount of "grippiness".

I went easy. I followed the advice on the thread. Used 2 inch pvc painted black as a spacer. Had to drill two new 1/4 inch holes below the original threaded holes. No problem The spacers need to be large diameter so the pedal doesn't rock from side to side . The larger diameter complete covers the carpet holes. Photos won't show anything except the original dead pedal level with the brake pedal. Easy job get 6 inch bolts I couldn't get long metric M6 as the original bolts are too short so new holes drilled.
