Default Instrument cluster lights

Hey all,
I replaced instrument cluster type 94 bulbs with LED green ones. Initially none of them worked. I played with the seat for them in the back of the cluster and tried different bulbs. I have 3 of 4 of them working. Also with the vehicle in acc or on with the light selector in the off position those three bulbs are on. Any ideas what might cause this? Should I just take it all back apart and spray the bejesus out of it with electric cleaner?
Thanks for your time.

Most of these LED bulbs are sensitive to polarity. Have you tried removing them, turning them by 180 degrees and putting them back in?

I've done the same thing on all my Jags and they only time they've not worked is when I've put them in the wrong way round - it's always trial and error...

I have tried putting bulbs in both directions. Is it probable the fly overs (I think I've read them as being called) are just not making good contact anymore? On the LEDs that you installed did they come on with the key in on position or vehicle turned on with the light selector on off? If so is it just because it's getting some residual power that wouldn't be enough to light up a halogen but enough for an led? Thank you for your time.

I don’t know if it’s related but…

I had a couple of dead bulbs in the XJR that I asked my mechanic to replace last fall. He took the cluster out and put in new bulbs three times only to have them fail each time the cluster was reconnected.

He’d started with a package of 8 new bulbs so with the last two he disconnected the battery before reinstalling the cluster. Four months later they are still working fine including responding to the dimmer.
