Is the leaper snapped off or did this model come without one?

Any service records?

Is the leather as nice as it looks in the pictures?

Thanks for sharing KC. I was half-hoping you would say it was in bad shape so I could ignore it without feeling like I'm missing something. Are you considering buying it KC?

The hood appeared to not have any sign of a previous leaper still not sure if the car came without one/ has been resprayed yet(or a new hood/clip etc.). The interior is really nice & clean w/ some normal wear around driver's bolster etc. No records, but I haven't ran the VIN yet. As said, the guy was borderline smug & we were clashing from the handshake. I doubt he went out of his way to check if the car had records in the office for me. As he just pulled up,hopped out of his car & handed me the keys & left as I did lol. He definitely doesn't spend much time there. I'll try & run the VIN tonight & see if I can uncover any service records etc.

My buying interest is around 50% it may increase or drop as I run the VIN & discover more. I've just always been intrigued by the 12 cylinder in my favorite car chassis combo lol.

Decoder only says that it is a 96 so far , 6.0 liter HE . What kind of refinements as April 17 1997 was the last year of V - 12 production ?

Harvest,
Check back in this thread later on I looked @ 3 cars today. I want to check my notes, I'm looking for a car for my soon to be driving son as well. Truth be told that's how I will justify any vehicle purchase in the near future lol.

The 6.0L is about the best one you can get, with most, if not all of the V12 problems ironed out.
It is not super strong, but should be more than enough, and it should be silky smooth.
It might very well be an imported car, hence the lack of a leaper.
And, like KC, I think this is the ultimate combination of the elegance of the x300 design, with the beauty of a big V12 ... If only it was closer ....

Carfaxing now, but my associate has a deeper scan for VINs he use with his auction app. I'll get that ASAP as well.

Edit :

CarFax via Google Drive

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_95...L_71roAu7/view

I have to be back in that area 2x in as many weeks so I'll delve deeper. IE take a mirror for undercarriage, scan codes etc. along w/ $4,000 in cash to see if I can rattle "Mr. Congeniality" & if the spirit moves me to do so lol. Disclaimer : The "spirit" I'm referring to is in the bottle, not the sky lol.

She looks gorgeous! I am really hoping you get her as you live not too far away and I could have a chance to see her in person 😁

I have arranged to have it for an hour tomm. & access to a lift @ a nearby shop. Also taking my associate whom does most of my Jag work, as his eye's a bit better than mine.

Best of luck with the underside inspection. I hope the bottom looks as good as the top!

I love that you are posting all of this but I am sad it’s not ME that’s considering buying it!

If you buy the car it will be bittersweet. I will be happy for you but a little jealous.

Will be interesting to see what you find. I've been following this car on CL for a while. I think it's been listed for a few months, and the price dropped a bit.

I considered the car as well as it's just down the road from me, but would have had a hard time justifying another

.

Well we discovered some leaks when we had it in the air. Nothing major as I've read a "weeping" rear differential is common & also a small oil leak my associate deemed as a failing gasket. No rust & the front end needs some maintenance IE tie rods & ball joints. I offered the guy $4000 cash, apparently he's a broker & has to run it by the car's actual owner. So we shall see.

Good luck. It looks like a steal at $4000.00.

Still no rebuttal to my offer as of yet. Not going higher than $4,000 as I recently hit my annual "Toy Contingency" budget very heavily with my X308's paint & transmission rebuild. I've got it to 90+% of where I want it IE better than ever/upgraded. I have my "to do list" down to trivial things like upgrading interior lights to LEDs & such.

I know that if I were to get this, I would be starting over on another "upgrade" project lol. I will still bite if he responds to 4K but I will not pursue further.

I see the CL posting has expired. Any updates on your offer? I'm living vicariously through your possible purchase!

Did the car look to have been garaged -- the last owner owning so long and not driving much would indicate so. NJ is full of Jags -- many not garaged when new.
