Interior Rearview Center Mirror

Greetings,
I was advised recently to always turn off the auto-dip (dim) feature on the interior rearview mirror except when driving at night.
It seems leaving the auto-dip on (button depressed) when driving or parked in the sunlight causes the dipping function to always be trying to adjust, and causes an early expensive failure.
Does everyone here turn off the automatic function except for night driving?
Thanks,
BaxtersJag

There's a forward light sensor so that the autodimming will only function when the ambient light levels are low (you can try it, cover the sensor at the front with your hand while the car is on, it will dim after a minute or so).
Like avern said, it's a fault in the fluid and seals themselves, not a wear issue.
I leave mine on all the time. Besides, it should turn off while the car is off, so it won't try to auto adjust while parked.
The only time I could think of this being a possible wear issue is on the very old style autodimming mirrors which actually used mechanical dipping instead of and LCD-like fluid. I can't remember which cars used those, but i think those are back in the 80's anyway.
