Hi all, 1st time posting here! I have a 1998 XK8 that some times will not crank when you turn the key, if you release the key from the start position and try again invariably it will crank and start, sometimes it will take 3 goes to make it crank, I have checked all the connections to the battery and starter and all is well. I have replaced the start relay and still no good, it always goes after a few tries but I think one day it will not!!! can anybody give me a clue???.

I used to have a 1998 XJ8L that had the same problem. But not only did it not start some times, but it would also quit on the freeway when you let off on the gas some times!
Not a good situation.
The Jag dealer took months and many reoccurances to fix it because it was intermittent. In the end, they replaced many parts of the intake system and told me it turns out that they were of a defective design and there was a new version of those parts installed.
It never did it again, but the trauma was extreme. No fun losing power on Houston freeways.
May be completely unrelated, but I thought I would share in case it helps someone.
