Default Internal Engine Cleaning, she really needs it.

When I remove the valve cover to replace the tensioner for the timing chain, I was shocked to see how dirty the engine was, it wasn't much of a sludge problem. It was mostly varish and some build up here and there.

I was like what did I buy.

Come Monday, (vacation) the XJR is going to get some much need attention.

First thing I want to resolve is the internal engine cleaning, I have use Gunk Motor Flush on my previous cars, but they was never this dirty.

The machine flush is out of the question.

I was thinking to pour some SeaFoam in the oil now, to start the process and Gunk it with two can of their engine flush when changing the oil. Then add some more Seaform to the clean oil, until it gets dirty again.

The problem is, I know the engine is not running at even close to peak in the condition it is now and that bothers me.

Do anybody have any other method of cleaning, that they using or have used in the past, to clean the internal section of the engine.

I know that doesn't help, but I've not heard of a magic potion to clean internals.

A friend suggested to me a while ago good results by running a really cheap crappy oil in his S Type for 500 miles it - cleared all the sludge - then he drained it and added oem oil and filter - the engine is now clean.

My guess is the bunged up egr valve/part/full load breathers didn't help your engine stay fresh, along with neglected oil changes, (not you but previous owner)

Forte engine flush. Takes all the lacquer, varnish and gum off all the internals.

If it's just varnish or discoloration and not sludge, it's not causing any harm. I'd leave it alone. If you must clean it, I'd simply do a series of oil changes with your favourite brand of motor oil. I'm always leery of cleaning products that might break loose chunks of crud that might block passages.

I agree with Mikey, safer to do a series of oil changes than using harsh cleaners

Ditto on the advice to stay away from harsh engine cleaners. The only important thing they clean out is your bank acct. Find another way to address your poorly running engine.

Its not just varnish, there are patch of caked up goop here and there on the head. The camshaft area and brackets mounted are clean, when I removed them to do the TC tensioner replacement.

I ran some Seafoam in the oil on my 83 mile drive home and to my amaze, gas mileage jump up 2 MPG, on the car's computer. In my 4 months of ownership, I never seen 18 MPG on the average MPG reading. No change in driving habit, set cruise control at 65 MPH, like I always do to save on gas.

Something is working/breathing/flowing/closing/sealing better. Will see what MPG I get on my 166 mile round trip commute tomorrow.

Will be dropping the pan on Monday to see if there any build up.

Wife is giving 4 days to bond with the XJR starting on Saturday, so I am taking full advantage of it.
