Question J-Gate Problem Again - RESOLVED

hi all 2000 x308 wife's car. have in J gate problem again car will not start unless I move the micro switch going to replace it with another one form a junk yard find not a big deal to remove center consul . so my question is why dose this keep happening this will be the third one I have put in, any thoughts would be appreciated jrb53

It simply could be bad luck, but be sure to check the alignment at the contact point, that it isn't pressing (or hitting it) too hard and breaking it.

If memory serves me correct, can't you take the micro switch from the 'N' and put it in place of the 'P'?

Check the little arm on the switch isn't bent too far outward, the gear stick shaft could be catching them as it passes. This happened on one of my old XJ's on the N switch.

thanks to all problem solved. turn out to be bent micro switch. replaced it with one from the old one that I had saved. good job I am a pack rat as I have a lot of old parts. thanks again to forum members jrb53

I'm glad you got it sorted, bent switches are a common problem on these I think. I'm like you, I keep a lot of spare parts in stock which I'm always adding to. I'm going to have to build special storage in my attic I think as I've run out of room in my garage. LOL
