Jacking entire front and back ends
Hi Guys
My XJR needs new rear bearings so I've sourced refurbed hubs with new bearings fitted. I figure that fitting them will be easiest with all 4 wheels off the ground with the car on axle stands (going to refurbish the handbrake at the same time). Does anyone know of the best place to site a trolley jack for lifting the front and for lifting the back ends ?

This will make the vehicle much more stable than trying to raise both ends which can be tricky.
The safest place to lift the back end in one go is directly underneath the 'A'
platform directly below diff using a peice of timber 50mmx600mm on the trolly
saddle.
This can be awkward if you only have a short bed trolley jack.
But you can get around this two ways.
1. Use car jack to jack up one side in the normal jack bracket enough to get the trolley jack under the car directly from the back.
Place it centrally under the 'A' frame with peice of wood in place to spread the load when lifting....and then you can remove car jack.
2. You can jack up each side independantly and place jack stands under the
front 'A' frame mounting plates....making sure of course that the front wheels are chocked.
As there will be a bit of 'heave ho-ing', it's much more stable than lifting all four corners. ;o]

I did think about just lifting the back end but im not sure that I trust wheel chocks to hold the front of the car in place, especially with the likelyhood of having to stick my head in the wheel arch while thhe back end is lifted, but I take our point about the stability while on stands. May have to give this a little more thought.
