Jag mechanics recommendation in San Diego area

Hi all, been a while since i've been on this forum, almost as long since my jag has been running on the road.
I have a 2003 X308 with 88K miles on the odo. In January 2016 my transmission went out, the car switched into limp home mode and threw a transmission code too. I had it trailered back home where it's languished since Jan 2016 gathering dust. I suspect it's the infamous A drum problem but cannot be certain.
Now i want to get it fixed and tried a couple of transmission shops locally, all of whom couldn't even give me a ball park quote until they ran a "diagnostic check". I even spoke with Jag mechanic local to me in North County. He had mixed reviews on yelp and when i spoke to him he seemed very unsure about X308's and was astonished that there were 2003 MY X308's. All i can say is that he did not give me a good feeling of confidence that my car would be in good hands.
So that's where my request comes in. Do any forum members in the San Diego area recommend any of the specialists and in particular have any of them fixed your transmission? I'm expecting it's going to cost about $2-2.5K or thereabouts. I don't have either the time or the space to do it myself and the car is taking up a lot of room at the moment.
Grateful to hear any recommendations from forum members.
thanks in advance

Have you posted this in the US West region also? I'd also be checking out The Marketplace in the top taskbar and scroll through finding someone parting out a car. You can also check out... Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market ...put in what you want, get responses and if you find a price you like, its up to you to buy.
