Thing is - I heard they caught the monkey guy. They had his plate number, of course, but technically could not get a photo radar citation to stick w/o the photo ID of the driver.

With the plate number they located his home address, actually folowed him to work one day and pulled him over speeding on the 101 with the monkey mask on. I think he was/is a baggage handler at sky harbor....Ouch!...that ticket must have hurt the monkey!

I'm glad to see the fixed freeway cameras go - everybody goes into a panic when they get near them and traffic starts to crawl.

But El Mirage just sent me my first for the Super V8 a couple of weeks ago - 37 in a 25 on that stretch of T-Bird between El Mirage and Grand. 35 everywhere else but that section and I was in a hurry and not paying attention.

And I got flashed last Friday in Surprise while trying to figure out what some guy was doing leaning over into a trailer on the side of the road. The trailer wasn't labelled and it had a 15 foot boom with lights - it looked more like a construction site lighting trailer. Sadly I didn't see his "police" labelled explorer parked next to it until too late so I'm hoping he was working on the camera.

Bummer - those local municipalities can still operate their cameras legally in AZ. You need to help get the initiative on the Nov ballet by signing the camerafraud.com petition. They need more signatures. Voters in AZ still have to defeat the cameras entirely by voting no for photo radar, but if it doesn't get defeated, then even the state (DPS) can start back up again at any time...especially if you guys in AZ get Napolitano back again...after she fails as homeland security sec, that is.

For the locals such as Surprise and El mirage, the temptation of lots of money is too great...witness you, LOL!

If you're in Scottsdale, watch it there too. The local cops are real cowboys, I hear, both with photo radar and roving gangs of cops on motorcycles with sting setups.

My favorite speed camera urban legend is regarding the movable cameras that are attached to either a van or a trailer. The story goes that a man of real courage got fed up with the tickets and decided enough was enough. So he walked up to the trailer from behind the camera and removed the license plate, which he then affixed to his own vehicle. At which point he made several high speed runs in full view of the camera. Finally he returned the license plate back to the camera trailer...

I do have to say I enjoy not having cameras where I live. If you happen to be going a bit quick and you know the officer had no idea of your plate you just keep going a little quicker of course.

Many of time I would be traveling in my 99 XJR (the only topaz one within half the state) and pass by a trooper sitting. I would watch and see if they even would bother, and if they felt the need to try I would just pick up the pace and end it.

They all knew who's car it was and I would always get pulled over within the next two days guaranteed while driving normal just because they wanted to bust my ***** because they could never get me the day of. The worst I would get would be warnings for dumb things just so they could feel they won. Most would just come up to the car with a smile and would end up talking about something else. If I asked why they pulled me over it would always be well you just look to young to have a car like this. Not well you flew by me the other day at 90mph and I lost you.

Been caught three times but always got away. Usually it was with a rental car and I showed one of my foreign licenses and sometimes only speak German.

I read somewhere that Jag drivers were the least prone to get a speeding ticket.

Never really tested the 99 XJR, but would do 80mph -100mph regularly. Took the 03 XJ8 up to 120mph and had a tough time getting past that in a reasonable distance. The car was very stable and could have got up higher but it would take a while and a strait road that goes on and on.

I've seen my needle touch the limited speed, put it that way....but that said it was on an old airfield runway.

I've done 130 mph in both my XK8 and X300 going to Vegas....Fastest car ride for me was my M6 155 and my MB 300 145. Had my X-Type up to 130 mph for a moment on a trip to Phoenix once.

All time fastest ever for me was 160 MPH on a Ducati Desmo - done on a deserted two-lane straight country road in Illinois. I was twenty something then with faster reflexes. After 150 mph I only felt safe down the centerline of the road. Any slight steering movement took me clear across the width of a single lane. Very little room for error or play at that speed.

Default Rentals only :-)

180-200kph in a rented manual ford focus TDI just outside of Ankara. And about the same in a rented Passat 2.0.
