Default The Jag's recent expenditure

Hello everyone! Around a week ago I dropped of the Jag to get the tensioners replaced. Well; that was not the case. Once the mechanic was inside the engine he'd figured they should replace the t-stat housing ( which was cracked ), some seals, and gaskets.

The total job cost 2,400.00 usd. Ouch. But, on the bright side the engine has no more problems, and not worried about tensioner failure or the thermostat disintegrating.

When I got the Jag back, she drove a lot smoother ( as in the acceleration ). Maybe because the gasket was replaced? It does explain why I kept losing coolant and having to top off every other month.

And since I'm writing this; I do have a question. ( This is not exactly on topic, but might as well ask it since I'm here ) for replacing the seal on the door; should I replace the whole door seal or just repair the one spot. On the corner there's a piece of it broken off. I was thinking of buying a whole seal and just cutting the pieces I need from that and apply them to the door. Thoughts?

One last thing; the mechanic left me a "nasty" surprise from the cover they use on the sides of the body to protect it and this happened:

Luckily that compounded out pretty good.

Have a good weekend everyone!

First, your mechanic owes you a polish and buff at a local body shop or high end car wash...about $80-100. But I see you did it yourself with some compound, that was good.
As for the seal, why cut a new piece up and compromise the sealing ability of it....just replace the whole thing.

+1 If you buy a whole new seal, use it as a complete new seal, just be very careful not to rip it.
