jaguar recall?
hey everyone, I'm new to this forum. I finally bought myself an XJR, and I must say, it's the nicest car I have ever driven. Everything's great on it, however there is one little delema I'm having with it. Every once in a while, on rare occasions , I'll turn my care off, and when I try turning it back on, it'll just crank and crank and not fire. Usually if I let it sit for 10 or 20 minutes it'll start right up. A couple days ago I tried starting it when I was on my lunch break, the same thing happened, only this time I had to let it sit for about 3 hours, and it still wouldn't fire. I had it towed to jaguar, and when they tested it out, it fired right up! no error codes or nothing. they even warmed it up, turned it off and then on, no problem whatsoever. They said since it's a 2000, it might be a throttle body recall, but they can't figure it out. It hasn't done that since, but every time I park it I get really paranoid that it might end up doing the same thing. Anyways, has anyone heard of this phantom problem before? any insight on the matter will be much appreciated, thanks.

RE: jaguar recall?
I asked the jaguar mechanic I go to about that, he told me it might have something to do with the ecu or ecm I think he called it. He even suggested that the spark plugs might need changing. Does any of that sound probable on the xjr preventing it to start. I'm a little paranoid about it because it did it again today.

Remove the intake tube going to the throttle body. Check to see if you have a black build up around the throttle plate. If so, clean it
off with throttle/carb cleaner and a rag. Disconnet the battery for a few minutes, turn it on, let idle till it reaches operating temperature.
If it doesnt fix it, you have bigger problems [:@]

RE: jaguar recall?
Not sure if this applies: My 1999 XJ8 starts fine. Except if I drive it cold for a short distance, ex drive it into the garage for the night, it will never start again! Had it towed in several times. They pull the plugs and ohter stuff. It seems the engine will flood and this is a common problem with this car. Our sure is to drive it around the block before we park it. Jaguar dealer and independent mecahnic have never been able to solve it.

RE: jaguar recall?
Thanks for the advice, I'm going to look into the throttle plate. I did have it do it again the other day when I was leaving work, all crank, no fire. So I figured I pop a battery junper on it just in case( we had a similar problem with a van at work, and it started right up with a jumper). Anyways, it fired up cooinsidently, and I was able to get it to the mechanic to grab the code before the engine light went off. he found out that the code it was shooting was a cylinder neutral switch fault, like trying to start the car in neutral. However he said that I shouldn't get any crank at all, it should be like starting the car in neutral. it's definately wierd. does this sound familiar to any of you?

Hey I figured it out! Oh man I feel like a burdon was just lifted from my shoulders! it's actually a relay in the fuse box in the engine.
on top of the plug, it reads:
NO:40A/14VDC
NC:30A/14VDC
COIL:12VDC
and then it shows a diagram on the other side.
here's some links to what it looks like.

I would like to know exactly what this part is called so I can get it ASAP, and if there's any more information to why it would do something like this.
thanks a lot for your guys's help.
