Jaguar XJ8 3.2 Year 2000
Hi
I have a Jaguar XJ8 3.2 on a 2000 plate, I have been having a idling problem. When the i'm driving the engine is running fine but as soon as i am standing still, the idling is very rough. I have checked all the spark plugs and they all seem to be firing correctly. I have also sent it for a diagnostic check and they can't find the problem.
I would like to know if any other Jaguar XJ8 owner has ever had this problem and how did they solve the problem??
Thanks

da1, first, check the mass air flow sensor to see if that is clean. If it gets dirty (or oily if you are using a cotton gauze/oiled filter), it can cause the motor to idle erratically. You simply let a little bit of electrical contact cleaner get near the sensor and it will clean it off. DON'T spray the sensor directly. It can break the sensitive wires inside of the MAF sensor.
Next, is the idle moving up and down a few hundred RPM also? If so, your idle air control valve can be sticking and leading to issues. Remove the idle air control valve and use some carb cleaner to get rid of the gunk inside.
After that, I would need to check my service CD for your car and see if there is something else that might poke its head up.
