I don't know who runs this forum, but trying to get a straight answer like .. 3rd one from the left, or the one marked x is just not possible. What you may get is read the manual, then how do you get a manual, and then look in the forum for where to get the manual. LOL, I'm just making fun now. But this is not far from the truth. I'm actually looking for the same advice. I'll get back to you when I find out.

The reason the 20 or so folks that answer most of the questions refer you to the source of the information is because the same questions are asked over and over again. There has been a huge amount of effort put into making this the best information reference on the net, not just for Jaguar but for any car, by creating an extensive library of answers at the top of each forum.
You will find your answer there but in consideration of your newby status here is the drawing.
. . . and welcome to the forum!

Suggesting the manual also anticipates the twenty followup questions and alerts future readers its existence.

I thinking that this 1997 XJR is the X308 AJ26 model and not the X300 AJ16 model.
The 1997 XJR X300 Electrical Guide shows a different diagram for the relays than the 1997 XJR X308 (have to use the 1998 XJ X308 Electrical Guide).
The following is an extract from the X308 Electrical Guide and includes a photo of our 2001 XJ8 relay layout for the Starter and the others in that compartment:

R5 is the Starter Relay in Diagram.
Here is another diagram - This one is from the JTIS Jaguar Repair Shop Manual - 1998 X308 selected:

The 1997 X308 is not covered in the JTIS (only has 1997 X300 model) that is why I used the 1998 X308 information.
It is on the passenger side in the rear part of the engine compartment - ie UK - left side; North America & Rest of World - right side:
