Just bought an XJR - is this noise normal?

I don't know, this does not sound right to me.
It's something I do not know yet: It it possible to adjust the valves somehow on that XJR?
Is sufficient engine oil in the car?
And another idea, even though far fetched: Does the petrol in the tank have a minimum of 95 RON octane (=91 US octane)?
(You don't say in which country you are...)
Is the fuel fairly "fresh" or is the fuel very old and has it gone off?

Oil is close to max.

There are new sounds:
1. When driving and turning left, a knocking sound is heard on the front left side.
2. A small grinding sound when driving 10mph+.

Is this the XJR you posted about in the other thread that you couldn't really inspect properly but opted to take a chance on a bid?
Grinding noise while driving was a rear wheel bearing in my car.
Knocking sound when turning left could be some rubber suspension bits that need replacing. Strut mounts, ball joints, control arm bushings...could be many things. You need to get it up on jack stands and explore it, or if you're not so inclined, take it to a mechanic you trust.
For the ticking sound, I'd agree that it might be from sitting. Drive it and get a few tanks of fuel through it. Keep checking all the fluids and make sure its not losing any coolant or oil especially.,

I think it sounds normal. After following up on Sean's suggestion (or any really good fuel system cleaner, SeaFoam, Gamout, Lucas' best, or whatever they sell in your country, since BG44K is often hard to find), you might change the oil too. I think if you use a mechanic's stethoscope or a long dowel, you will hear injectors . . .

I will head down to a specialist sometime next year as this car won’t be doing many miles.
It will, however, get a professional underseal.
